Culture, Religion and Luxury at The Pushkar Camel Fair

Sadly this year’s Pushkar Camel Fair has come to and end, but it got off to a flying start with thousands of traders arriving, camels in tow, from all over Rajasthan (and tourists arriving from all over the world)! The Land of Kings is full of life this November and it promises to continue for the rest of the season. Pushkar Camel Fair is a great way to experience both a cultural and religious festival from one of Rajasthan’s smaller and quieter towns.

There are countless competitions and events within the Camel Fair – it is all about knowing when and where they are! From the best dressed camel, to best moustache, to best ‘foreign bride’, locals and visitors are all welcome to compete (aside from the best dressed camel, perhaps)! Here are some of Travel Inn’s own personal contenders for this year’s ‘Best Looking Camel’ award!  1395947_180070575528372_1739855133_n996045_180071132194983_542393861_n1469811_180070488861714_332991096_n There are some great options for accommodation during the Pushkar Camel Fair, however please bear in mind that they book up very quickly. The Orchard is our top choice providing luxury tented accommodation. With its’ quintessentially Indian approach to ‘glamping’ one can expect all the home comforts of a hotel with the added excitement of a two week festival! A visit to the Pushkar Camel Fair also combines well with a stay at Lakshman Sagar for the ultimate understated style itinerary.

The two week long event ultimately culminates in culminating with hundreds of religious pilgrims taking dips in the holy Pushkar lake, as the sacred water is known to bestow salvation on the month’s full moon.
